Tom Ganley's Appearance at Akron Press Club

Congressional candidate, Tom Ganley, the Republican candidate for Ohio's 13th Congressional District, spoke at a luncheon sponsored by the Akron Press Club and Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics at The University of Akron.

You can access the unedited video here

He spoke for about 15 minutes and then answered questions for a little over a half hour.

Ganley's opponent, Betty Sutton, spoke at the same venue on October 20.

Interesting that the pic looks a whole lot like one on Suttons lit.

Not interesting at all. I did a Google search for "Tom Ganley" under images and it is one of the first that popped up and is about the right size. It's a picture taken during the event in which he announced his Senate candidacy. If someone from the campaign or one of his supporters have a problem with that, then they should have told Mr. Ganley to change his appearance in some way when he was going to make that announcement.

Fair enough :-)

By the way, I do not live in the 13th Congressional District so I have not been bombarded by either campaign with lit.

Frankly, I was so concerned with getting video of both events I forgot to take pictures myself of the candidates speaking at the event to use on the blog.

Ganley is interested in his constituents/customers. Not that this is always a virtue. Fleas are interested in dogs.

He sounds like he's speaking to a crazy tea party group. "Fight for it" "Take it back" "Arrrr PELOSI!" -- I get the impression the Akron Press Club is a pretty liberal organization. He should definitely be selling himself differently; not appealing to conservative paranoia. Just goes to show that to get elected, you gotta have some political know how. Lesson of the Day: Know your audience.

The Akron Press Club is nether a liberal nor conservative organization. It has no party affiliation or political ideology or any political axe to grind. If you look at the list of our speakers and events through the years, there have been Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives, sports figures, journalists, academics, elected officials of both parties, media panels, business panels, arts panels, etc. If we bring in a speaker such as the chair of the Ohio Republican Party which we did in the Spring of 2010, we make sure to invite the chair of the Ohio Democratic Party who was here in September of 2010.

Halliwell, don't know where you got that impression about the Press club's liberal spin. But it has been a convenient excuse by Republicans to excuse themselves from that neighborhood. As one who moderated many of the debates for years, I occasionally was accused of front-loading the programs with Democrats, or as one crackpot complained, of a socialist speaker (who was actually an elected Democrat.). Although I am no longer involved in the planning of programs and recruiting of speakers, I would say that Ganley managed to get a free ride with the agreement to let him speak alone. No other press club that I am aware of would have done that.
